A.      Past Tense

·         Example: Last holiday, I and my family went to Bali.

·         Purpose/Goal/Social function: To retell past even

·         Generic Structure: 1. Orientation (Character, setting, time, place)

      2.  Event

      3. Re-orientation

Ø  Narrative (dongeng)

·         Example: Long time ago, there lived a little girl named Timun Mas….

·         Purpose/Goal/Social function: To entertain/ amuse reader/ lisetener

·         Generic structure: 1. Oriention (character, setting, time, place)

                                      2. complication (problem masalah)

                                      3. Resolution (penyelesaian masalah)

                                      4. Coda/lesson (pelajaran/hikmah dari cerita itu)

B.      Simple Past Tense

Ø  Tobe=> was/were

(+) S+TOBE PAST+OBJECT/COMPLEMENT (* She, he, it, there => was, * I, you, we, they, there =>were)

(-) S+TOBE+NOT+O/C (*She, he, it, there =>was, *I, you, we, they, there => were)

(?) TOBE+S+O/C+? (*she, he, it, there => was, *I, you, we, they, there =>were).
